Why won’t my TV turn on from my iPhone?
Check that the TV’s network standby setting is on and that the TV is in standby, not unplugged or switched off at the wall. Some TVs also need to stay on the same Wi-Fi as your iPhone while they sleep.
Does leaving network standby on use more power?
A little. The TV keeps its Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection alive in standby, so it uses slightly more power than in deep standby.
Why can’t my iPhone turn on my TV when it’s off?
When a TV is in deep standby, its network connection sleeps too. Most TVs have a setting that keeps the network listening in standby. Without it, no app can wake the TV.
Does it use more power?
A little. Network standby keeps the Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection alive, so standby power is higher. TV makers list the networked standby power on the energy label.
Can it turn on a TV that is unplugged or switched off at the wall?
No. Nothing can. The TV needs power and its network standby setting turned on.
