What works
Sky Q is Sky's satellite TV box for the UK and Ireland, launched in February 2016. A main box records and streams to Sky Q Mini boxes in other rooms over the home network.

Put your iPhone and Sky Q box on the same network
Connect the Sky Q box and your iPhone to the same home Wi-Fi network (or the same router by Ethernet). Sky's own phone remote needs the same thing.
Check the box is connected to your network
Press Home on the Sky Q remote, then select Settings and Status. Network connection should have a tick.
Set up or reset the network connection
Press Home, then select Settings, Setup and Network. Select Reset to connect the box again, for example after changing router.
Keep the box reachable in standby
Press Home, then follow the path and choose Active or None. In Eco, the factory setting, the box goes into low power from 2:30am to 5:45am and takes a few minutes to come out of it, so a phone may not reach it then.
Can’t find your TV? Add it by IP address
If your TV doesn’t show up in the app, tap “Can’t find it?” and type the TV’s IP address. Here’s where the TV shows it.
Find the box's IP address
Press Home, then follow the path. The IP address looks like 192.168.0.7. This path comes from Sky's Community forum, not a Sky help article.

Troubleshooting
The box doesn't respond early in the morning
- Your box is probably in Eco standby, which runs from 2:30am to 5:45am.
- Press Home, then go to Settings > Setup > Preferences > Standby mode and choose Active or None.
The box isn't on the network
- Press Home, then go to Settings > Status and check Network connection has a tick.
- If it doesn't, go to Settings > Setup > Network and select Reset, then follow the steps on screen.
How to use your iPhone as a Sky Q remote
- Join the same Wi-FiConnect your iPhone to the same home Wi-Fi as the Sky Q box, or the same router if the box uses a cable. Turn the box on.
- Find your boxOpen Simple TV Remote. Your Sky Q box shows up in the list; tap it. There's no code to type.
- Or type the IP addressIf the box doesn't show up, press Home on the Sky Q remote and go to Settings > Status > Network Connection > Network Setup > Advanced Settings > IP Settings. Type the IP address into the app.

Does the Sky Remote app work with Sky Q?
No. Sky says its Sky Remote app is for Sky Glass and Sky Stream. For Sky Q, Sky points to the virtual remote in the Sky Go app, and Simple TV Remote works with Sky Q boxes as well.
How do I control my Sky Q box with my phone?
Connect your iPhone to the same Wi-Fi as the Sky Q box, then open a remote app. In Sky Go, select the Remote button in the top right corner. In Simple TV Remote, tap your Sky Q box in the list, or type its IP address if it doesn't show up.
Do I need to pair my iPhone with the Sky Q box?
No. There's no code or pairing step on Sky Q. The app finds the box on your home network and checks that it answers. Your iPhone and the box just need to be on the same network.
What can my iPhone do on a Sky Q box?
The arrows, Select, Back and the Sky (Home) button, play and pause, rewind and fast-forward, channel up and down, and putting the box into standby or turning it back on. Typing, opening apps and switching your TV's inputs aren't available. The free check shows each control working on your own box before you pay.
Can I change the volume on Sky Q from my iPhone?
No. The Sky Q box has no volume control over the network, so use your TV remote, or the Sky Q remote once it's set up for your TV. That's the same reason the app can't switch your TV's inputs.

Why can't the app find my Sky Q box?

How do I restart my Sky Q box?
Press Standby on the remote, then switch the box off at the mains. Check the lights on the front are off, switch it back on, and press Home once the messages on screen disappear. Some features can take up to five minutes to come back.
Can a phone turn on a Sky Q box?
Only from standby, and only while the box is still on the network. In Eco standby the box goes into a deeper low-power mode overnight. Nothing can turn it on once it's unplugged.

About Sky Q
Sky's own phone remote for Sky Q is part of the Sky Go app. Sky says the phone and the Sky Q box must be on the same Wi-Fi network. It has a keyboard button for typing searches and a power button that puts the box into standby.
Sky Q has no setting to allow or block phone control. Its standby mode matters more: in Eco, the factory setting, the box goes into a deeper low-power mode overnight.
