The year digit is our reading of Philips' product data: every range we checked matches it. The OLED+ ranges (for example OLED+959) are listed by Philips as OLED959.

Troubleshooting

Most problems come from the network or one TV setting. Start at the top.

The TV doesn't show up in the app
  1. Make sure the TV is on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone.
  2. Check that your router doesn't isolate devices from each other (guest networks often do).
  3. Restart the TV by unplugging it for a minute, then try again.
The app can't turn the TV on
  1. Turn on Switch On with Wi-Fi (WoWLAN) in the TV's network settings (see setup above).
  2. Turn the TV off with its remote so it goes to standby. Wake does not work after a power cut or if the TV is unplugged.
  3. If the TV uses a wired connection, try Wi-Fi instead, or use the remote that came with the TV.
The TV doesn't appear in the app
  1. Make sure your iPhone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network, not a guest network.
  2. Allow Local Network access for Simple TV Remote in iPhone Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.
  3. Restart the TV: unplug it, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in.
  4. Check that the TV is a Google TV or Android TV. TVs with only Chromecast built-in can't be controlled this way.
No pairing code shows on the TV
  1. Turn the TV on and leave it on the home screen; the code only shows while the screen is on.
  2. On the TV, update Android TV Remote Service: open Google Play on the TV, search for "Android TV Remote Service" and choose Update.
  3. If it still fails, go to Settings > Apps > Show system apps > Android TV Remote Service and choose Force stop, then Clear storage. Then pair again.
The app asks to pair again every time
  1. Clear the storage of Android TV Remote Service on the TV (Settings > Apps > Show system apps > Android TV Remote Service > Clear storage), restart the TV and pair once more.
  2. Give the TV a fixed address in your router so it doesn't change after a power cut.
The TV won't turn on from the app
  1. Wake works only from standby. A TV that was unplugged or switched off at the wall can't be woken over Wi-Fi.
  2. Turn on your TV maker's network standby setting. See your TV's page for the exact menu path.
  3. On Android TV 14 sets, a low-power energy mode may turn the network off in standby. Choose a mode that keeps the network on.
  4. If the TV uses Ethernet, try Wi-Fi, or the other way round. Some TVs only wake on one of them.
Volume doesn't change on a Chromecast, Google TV Streamer or SHIELD
  1. Turn on HDMI-CEC on your TV and on any soundbar or receiver in between.
  2. On the streamer, set Settings > Remotes & Accessories > Set up remote buttons > Volume control to "Auto (CEC)".

How to use your iPhone as a Philips Android TV remote

  1. Join the same Wi-FiConnect your iPhone and the TV to the same home Wi-Fi network. Guest networks often keep devices apart.
  2. Pick your TV in the appOpen Simple TV Remote and choose your TV. The free check runs on your own TV before you pay.
  3. Type the code from the TVThe TV shows a short code the first time. Type it on your iPhone once, and the app remembers the TV.
  4. Let your iPhone turn the TV onOptional: turn on Switch On with Wi-Fi (WoWLAN) in Settings > Wireless and Networks > Wired or Wi-Fi on UK sets, or WoW in Settings > Network & Internet on US sets. It works from standby only.

Questions

Is there a Philips Android TV remote app for iPhone?

Yes. Simple TV Remote is a Philips Android TV remote app for iPhone that works with Philips Android TV sets running Android TV. It pairs over your home Wi-Fi and sends real commands in a free check, so you know it works on your exact TV before you pay $5.99, once.

How do I turn on a Philips Android TV without the remote?

Press the power button on the TV; the manual for your model shows where it is. If Switch On with Wi-Fi (WoWLAN) is on and the TV is in standby, your iPhone can turn it on instead.

How do I let my iPhone turn on my Philips Android TV?

On UK and European sets, open Settings > Wireless and Networks > Wired or Wi-Fi and turn on Switch On with Wi-Fi (WoWLAN). On US sets, turn on WoW in Settings > Network & Internet, or WoL if the TV is on a cable. Then turn the TV off with its remote.

Is my Philips TV Android TV or Saphi?

Android TV sets have Google Play and a Google home screen with rows of apps. Saphi sets have a simpler Philips home screen with an App Gallery. Saphi isn't on our list yet, and the free check in the app tells you for sure.

Why can't the app find my Philips TV?

Make sure the TV is on and on the same Wi-Fi as your iPhone, and that your router doesn't keep devices apart, as guest networks often do. Then unplug the TV for a minute and try again.

How do I connect my Philips TV to Wi-Fi without the remote?

You need a remote or the TV's own buttons for that step. Phone apps, including Simple TV Remote and Google's, can only find a TV that's already on your Wi-Fi. A replacement remote is the surest fix, and after that your iPhone can take over.

Can I use the Google TV app as a Philips Android TV remote?

Yes. Google's free Google TV app works as a remote on iPhone: tap TVs nearby, pick your TV and type the code it shows. Simple TV Remote is a simpler, remote-first option with big buttons, a keyboard and no account, for $5.99 once after a free check.

How do I tell whether my Philips TV runs Android TV or Saphi?

Android TV sets have Google Play and a home screen with app rows from Google. Saphi sets have a simpler Philips home screen and an App Gallery instead of Google Play. You can also check the model on this page: for example 55PUS7304/12 is Android TV, while 55PUS6704/12 is Saphi.

Can the app turn my Philips Android TV on?

Only from standby, and only with Switch On with Wi-Fi (WoWLAN) turned on (WoW on US sets). It can't turn on a TV that is unplugged.

Where do I find the model number?

On UK and European sets, open Quick Menu > Help > TV information. On US sets, go to Settings > Device Preferences > About, or check the rating label on the back of the TV.

What does the last digit of the model mean?

On UK and European models, the last digit of the series matches the model year: 55OLED803/12 is a 2018 set, 55OLED807/12 is a 2022 set. US codes don't follow this rule.

Which Philips Android TV models work with Simple TV Remote?

Philips Android TV TVs from 2016–2022 work, including the POS901F, PUS6401, PUS6501, PUS6551, PUS6561, PUS6581, PUS7101, PUS7181 series sold in United Kingdom and Europe and United States. Search for your exact model code in the table on this page.

About these TVs

TP Vision sold Philips Android TVs in the UK and Europe from 2015 to 2022. They include most Philips OLED ranges in those years, from the 2016 55POS901F to the 2022 OLED807 and OLED+937, and the upper LED ranges such as the PUS7304, PUS8204 and PUS8807.

In the US, Philips Android TVs were sold from 2018 (PFL5704) to 2022 (PUL7472), alongside Philips Roku TVs.

Android TV includes the Android TV Remote service that Simple TV Remote uses. Philips sets made from 2023 run Google TV, Titan OS or Saphi instead.

Cheaper UK and European Philips sets from these years, such as the PUS6704, PUS7805 and PUS7506, and the 2019 OLED754, run Philips' own Saphi system, not Android TV. They are listed on the Philips Saphi page.
