Simple TV Remote gives you big, clear buttons for these D, E and F series sets. Check your TV for free in the app, then unlock it once for $5.99.
What works

On your TV
Turn these on once with your TV remote. Menu names can differ slightly by year and region.
Put your iPhone and TV on the same network
Connect the TV to the same Wi-Fi network (or the same router by Ethernet) as your iPhone. Menu > Network > Network Settings sets up the connection.
Turn on Network Remote Control (2011 sets)
Set it to On. Samsung's 2011 e-Manual describes it as giving mobile devices permission to connect to and control the TV.
Allow the connection on the TV
The first time a phone connects, the TV shows a pop-up asking whether to allow it. Choose Allow with your Samsung remote. If you choose Deny, the TV blocks that device until you change it in the device list.
If you chose Deny, check AllShare Settings (2012–2013 sets)
Samsung's e-Manual says this lists mobile phones and other devices set up with the TV, each Allowed or Denied. Set your phone to Allowed, or delete it so the TV asks again. We haven't confirmed that this list also covers remote-control apps.
Find the TV's IP address
Network Status checks the connection. Select IP Settings on that screen to see the IP address; it looks like 192.168.1.23. On some 2013 sets the Menu button is called Screen Menu.
In the app
Pairing takes about a minute, once per TV.

Troubleshooting
Most problems come from the network or one TV setting. Start at the top.
The TV never asks to allow your phone
- On 2011 sets, check Menu > System > Network Remote Control is On.
- Check your phone isn't set to Deny in the device list for your year (see setup).
- Turn the TV off and on, then try again.
The TV isn't on the network
- Go to Menu > Network > Network Status and run the check.
- If it fails, set the connection up again in Menu > Network > Network Settings.

Questions
Is there a old Samsung TV remote app for iPhone?
Yes. Simple TV Remote is a old Samsung TV remote app for iPhone that works with old Samsung TV sets running Smart Hub. It pairs over your home Wi-Fi and sends real commands in a free check, so you know it works on your exact TV before you pay $5.99, once.
Can I use my iPhone as the remote for an old Samsung smart TV?
Yes, if it's a Samsung smart TV from 2011, 2012 or 2013. Put your iPhone on the same Wi-Fi as the TV, open Simple TV Remote and choose Allow on the TV once. The free check shows it working on your TV before you pay $5.99 once.
How do I know if my Samsung TV is from 2011 to 2013?
Look at the model number on the label on the back of the TV. The letter right after the screen size is the year: D means 2011, E (ES or EH) means 2012 and F means 2013. So UE46ES8000 is a 46-inch 2012 TV and UN55F6400 is a 55-inch 2013 TV.
What if my model number has H or J after the size?
Then the TV is from 2014 (H) or 2015 (J, such as JU or JS), and it isn't on our list yet. The free check in the app tells you for sure. Don't confuse this with 2026 Samsung models, where the H comes at the end of the series name, as in QN65S90H.
What does the app do on a 2011–2013 Samsung TV?
It covers the everyday buttons: arrows and OK, Back, Home (Smart Hub), volume and mute, and turning the TV off. You also get play, pause, rewind and fast-forward, number keys, channel up and down, and the Source menu. Typing, opening apps directly and turning the TV on aren't available on these sets.
How do I turn on an old Samsung TV without the remote?
Press the power button on the TV itself. Your iPhone can't turn these TVs on, because Samsung TVs from these years have no setting for it. Once the TV is on, the app takes over.
I lost the remote. Can my iPhone still help?
Yes, if the TV is already on your Wi-Fi. The first time you connect, you need to choose Allow on the TV once, so borrow a Samsung remote or use a universal remote that works with the TV for that step. After that, your iPhone does the rest.
How do I change the input to HDMI from my iPhone?
Tap Source in the app to open the TV's input list. Use the arrows to move to the HDMI input you want and press OK. On these sets the app can't jump straight to one input.
How do I connect my old Samsung TV to Wi-Fi?
Open Menu > Network > Network Settings on the TV and follow the steps for your Wi-Fi. You can also plug the TV into your router with a network cable. Then run Menu > Network > Network Status to check that it's online.
Why doesn't the TV ask me to allow my iPhone?
Make sure your iPhone and the TV are on the same Wi-Fi, not a guest network. On a 2011 TV, set Menu > System > Network Remote Control to On. If you chose Deny before, the TV keeps blocking your iPhone until you change it in its device list; on 2012 and 2013 TVs, Samsung lists allowed and denied devices in Menu > Network > AllShare Settings.
Can my phone turn these TVs on?
Samsung's manuals for these years have no setting for turning the TV on over the network.
