How do I turn on my Samsung TV without the remote?
Press the Controller button on the TV. Samsung says it is at the bottom center or bottom right of the screen on many models, and its position and shape vary by model. Your model's user manual shows exactly where it is.
How do I change the volume or input without the remote?
With the TV on, press the Controller button once. A small menu opens on screen for power, volume, channel and source. Press the button again to move through it, and hold it to choose.
What app can I use as a Samsung remote?
Samsung's own SmartThings app has a Remote tab: open the app, select your TV, and tap Remote in the bottom panel. The TV must already be on Wi-Fi and added to SmartThings with a Samsung account. Simple TV Remote also works with Samsung smart TVs from 2016 and later, with no account.
Can my iPhone turn on my Samsung TV?
Yes, if Power On with Mobile is on and the TV is in standby. On 2017–2021 TVs it's in Settings > General > Network > Expert Settings, and on 2022–2024 TVs in Settings > All Settings > Connection > Network > Expert Settings. You have to switch it on before the remote goes missing, so do it now if you find the remote.
Can I use my iPhone if my Samsung TV isn't on Wi-Fi?
No. Phone apps reach the TV over your home Wi-Fi, so the TV must already be connected. If it isn't, use the Controller button for the basics and get a replacement remote to finish setup.
How do I find a lost Samsung remote?
Look under cushions and furniture first, then check pockets and nearby rooms. If your Samsung TV is in SmartThings, the app is a quick stand-in while you search.
Will a new Samsung remote pair with my TV?
Usually, yes. Samsung's Smart Remote and SolarCell remote pair over Bluetooth: stand within 1 foot of the TV and hold Return and Play/Pause for at least 5 seconds, until the TV says the remote is connected.
